Callling all family members!

As I have visited with Grandpa over the past several days here in Ohio (celebrating his 89th birthday!) I have heard some AMAZING stories. I asked him if he had written any down and he pointed to his head and said, "Nope, it's all up here!" So, I'm on a mission to have grandpa join our blogging family and have him start documenting some of his stories.

I said, "Grandpa, you have so many incredibile stories!" and he said, "I had 70 missions, I have 70 stories!" So, there you have it...a blog is born. (For those who do not know, Grandpa flew a P-47 in WWII. It's a big deal...google it!)

If you have any tips for him or stories that you want him to share...tell him to blog it! He is loving mine and I know would enjoy doing one as well...we all would. He has tons of pictures of his planes, Mom, maybe you could walk him through scanning some to get him going.

his password for now is "grandpadon" if you want to spruce this up a bit, feel free. I was trying to get a picture of one of his planes up off of google images but failed...any takers?

Love to all,
Jenny

  2. I have some P-47 photos.

I am looking forward to your stories. You may not know me, but I am a San Antonio Dad of 3 daughters just about the same age of Jenny, Jessica and Stacy... I consider those girls my loaner daughters...

I am also a retired Southwest pilot.

I also flew O-2A's as a Forward Air Controller in Vietnam... I was there for 51 days and I can probably tell 51 stories. I have told a few.

The real reason I have commented is my Dad flew P-47's and P-51's in WW II. European Theater. Based in England. I know some of my Dad's stories and I cherish them. Some are written down and some are in books. I also have some of his gun film... the old 16mm stuff and some that has been converted to video tape.

My Dad was in Class 43-D, and his name was Charles Kruger.

My Father-in-Law was in Class 43-C, his name was James Robert Penland. He flew the C-46 over the Hump. 105 missions and I think there were 3 turn-backs. I have his logbook and the Chinese Wings he was given. I have some of his stories also.

I hope you can generate some stories for us.

    Your friend and fellow pilot.
